Los Angeles, California – NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman announced today that the Los Angeles Rams will be returning to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the third straight season after defeating the St. Louis Blues 5-3 in the 2017 NHL Western Conference Semifinals at Staples Center.
Los Angeles (27-10-5) returns to the postseason for the fifth straight season and fourth time overall, defeating the San Jose Sharks 4-1 in the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals.
This marks the third time in league history the Kings have returned to the Playoffs and the first time since 2003.
The Rams (17-13-5), the defending Stanley Cup champions, have not won a postseason series since the 2010-11 season.
Los Angels’ Matt Leinart scored a pair of goals to lead the Rams to a 6-3 win over the Blues, who finished the game with eight shots on goal.
Matt Leitch has nine goals and 11 assists in his past nine games.
Los Angeles’ Drew Doughty also had a pair and scored twice in the victory.
Los Angelere is tied with Colorado for the second-most points in the Western Conference with 1,737, and leads the league with five shutouts.
Colorado (20-8-3), the league’s second seed, is third in the West at 8-0-0 and is tied for third in points with 732.
Los Alamitos (15-10) is tied at the bottom of the West with five wins and is riding a five-game winning streak, the longest in franchise history.
Los Alamities is 2-3-1 all-time against Los Angeles in the playoffs.
The Kings return to Staples Center for the seventh consecutive year on Sunday, March 12.
The first game will be played at 7 p.m.
PST at Staples Arena.
Tickets for the Kings’ home opener against the Colorado Avalanche will go on sale Friday, March 13.
Los Angles will host the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday at 8 p.s.m., Pacific Time.
